Here are some of the questions we are often asked concerning our wood flooring products. If there are any other questions which you think should be included on this page, do please Contact Us.
Engineered floor versus a solid hardwood product?
Engineered boards are manufactured of hardwood using a cross-directional construction, with a top layer of premium hardwood. This construction counteracts the natural tendency of wood to expand with seasonal changes, making engineered products considerably more stable. Solid boards are manufactured from a solid piece of wood.
Can engineered boards be laid over an under-floor heating system?
Yes, you can install an engineered floor over under-floor heating if you follow a few guide requirements:
- An evenly distributed temperature must be adhered to, across the whole floor.
- The surface temperature of the finished floor must never exceed 27°C at any point.
- Ensure that there are no air gaps between the wood floor and the surface beneath, as this could cause the wood to dry out.
- The working temperature during installation should be at least 18°C. This applies to the boards, the subfloor and the room air temperature.
- The relative humidity (RH) of the air must be less than 60% before, during and after laying the floor.
Please Note: Above are basic rules. You must check and follow the heating manufacturer's guide lines.
Can wood flooring be installed in wet areas & bathrooms?
No, it is not recommended to install wood flooring in bathrooms or wet areas. An area such as a kitchen or toilet is fine as long as any water spills are cleaned up as quickly as possible.
